Ordem Paranormal character sheet: a pre-game checklist

Review your Ordem Paranormal character sheet before playing: table rules, attributes, skills, resources, equipment and rolls. Use this practical checklist.

Your Ordem Paranormal character sheet is filled in, but is it ready for the session? A useful review checks three things: your character follows the group's rules, the values make sense and you can find your options during play. Even a fully completed sheet might confuse current and maximum resources or include an ability from another version.

This checklist focuses on first edition and reviews an existing character. To start from scratch, follow the Portuguese character creation tutorial. For session planning, read how to play Ordem Paranormal RPG. Playing the second-edition test? Use the separate playtest sheet guide.

1. Confirm the reference your sheet uses

Write down the book version, allowed supplements and optional rules. An ability found in a video or shared character needs checking against that reference before it becomes part of your character.

Ask the GM to confirm starting progression and available resources. If your table uses rules that treat level and paranormal exposure separately, generic NEX advice may not apply. Record the agreement before changing calculations.

Use Jambô's official website to find the publisher's channels. Your review should establish which rule your group adopted and where it comes from, so the sheet does not combine values from different materials.

2. Review concept, origin and class together

Read your character concept and check whether your choices help represent it. Origin and class have their own effects; an occupation in your backstory does not automatically grant every benefit that seems to fit it.

A former nurse can have that history in the fiction. Mechanical benefits come from the permitted options actually selected. If treating injuries is an intended strength, check how that appears in the character's skills and abilities.

Ask a practical question: what do I expect to do when the team needs me? That might be examining a scene, talking to witnesses or protecting someone. The answer can reveal a missed choice and give the GM a scene to prepare.

3. Check attributes and skills for duplicated bonuses

Find the first-edition attributes: Agilidade, Força, Intelecto, Presença and Vigor. Check their distribution and creation limits in your group's material. Then review trained skills and where each selection came from.

On a digital sheet, check whether a field expects a bonus or already displays a calculated total. Entering a total where the template expects an adjustment can count the same benefit twice. Read the field description and make a sample roll before editing formulas.

| Review item | Question to answer | | --- | --- | | Attribute | Is this value allowed under our creation and progression rules? | | Training | Which choice granted this skill? | | Additional bonus | Is it permanent or conditional? | | Roll | Does it use the expected dice and modifiers? |

Choose a common skill and ask the GM to check what rolling it should do. The dice roller can help compare results when you enter the expression appropriate to your rule.

4. Separate maximum and current resources

Locate Vida, Sanidade and Esforço and verify the reference values on your sheet. A maximum represents capacity; the current value records what remains in that situation. Track spending in the corresponding place.

For example, a character leaves a confrontation injured. At the next session, do not assume every resource has returned to maximum. Confirm whether rest, treatment or another rules-defined recovery happened and update current values accordingly.

Keep temporary conditions visible too. If an effect changes a test for one scene, note when it starts and ends. That prevents a temporary benefit from becoming a permanent part of the sheet.

5. Read each main option before using it

For an ability, attack or ritual you plan to use, find four details: when it can be used, what it costs, what it does and when it ends. Check requirements, targets and limitations in the adopted rules.

You do not need to copy an entire chapter into your notes. A brief reminder with the name and rule location can help. “Protection ability: check cost, range and available reaction” reminds you what to consult without replacing the full text.

If the sheet has a roll shortcut, confirm what it executes. An attack button may handle dice and modifiers while conditional effects still need interpreting for the scene. Walk through a sample situation with the GM.

6. Check inventory and equipment access

Review what is authorized for the mission, what your character carries and which system limits apply. An item mentioned in a backstory or another character's sheet is not automatically available to your agent.

Find frequently used objects. Flashlights, phones and documents may matter during investigation; weapons and protection need their corresponding fields and rules checked. Track consumables and other resources that decrease during play.

Try the opening of our sample mission: the group enters a dark building and needs to locate a recording. Does your character have the equipment you imagined using? Can you find its information quickly enough to keep the conversation moving?

7. Check the online sheet before the game

If you use the Ordem Paranormal sheet on Mini Kraken, open your character ahead of time. Confirm the template, verify that changes saved and make a sample roll.

Agree with the GM on how the character will be used in the campaign and check access through your table's workflow. A personal sheet and material the whole group can consult may have different permissions. Use the available sharing features to verify access.

After importing a character from another service, compare the resulting fields. The C.R.I.S. import guide, available in Portuguese, covers that process; reviewing character choices remains part of preparation.

Questions about sheet review

Does an automatic sheet replace checking the rules?

It can automate values and rolls supported by the template. Character choices, optional rules and scene conditions still need to match the GM's agreement. If a result seems wrong, check the inputs before changing the template.

Can I use a ready-made sheet I found online?

Use it as an organizational reference and check every choice with the group. It may use different progression, supplement options or house rules. If you are still joining a game, read how to find an Ordem Paranormal group before finalizing your character.

Does a first-edition sheet work for the RPG 2 playtest?

Choose a template matching the material you will play. Mini Kraken has a separate Ordem Paranormal II Playtest page. Do not treat one edition's fields or values as an automatic conversion to another.
