Modern RPG handouts: use the email, chat and news templates

ERPG’s modern RPG handouts include an email inbox, a phone conversation and an online news page. Each gives a clue a different source: correspondence the characters discover, messages recovered from a device or a report available to the public.

This guide uses three existing templates. The images are catalog previews; the adaptation examples below are suggested copy for your own adventure. Template names are kept as they appear in the library.

Choose a format for the clue

Email Aberto: establish a documented discovery

The preview presents a municipal archive’s message about a building’s basement. The subject, signature and small attachment illustration establish where the information came from. This works for research that gives the characters a reason to visit a location.

Prepare a short message with something they can verify. For example:

Subject: revised plan for block B The latest copy omits a door beside the storeroom. The caretaker kept the older plan and will be at reception until 7 p.m. Ask her to show you both versions.

Update the subject, sender, body, signature and visible references to match the same case. The attachment is represented within the handout. If players need to examine a complete floor plan, prepare that separate document and give it to them as well.

Conversa do Zap: keep the exchange short

The existing preview already contains a suspenseful exchange: a contact continues sending messages despite information that casts doubt on their presence. The narrow screen suits short replies that change the meaning of the previous message.

Write a replacement exchange before editing the layout:

— Did you let someone into the storeroom? — I’m at reception. I have the key. — Then come and see the light on inside.

Adjust the bubbles and timestamps you use. Check the contact name, quoted messages and any copy left from the original scene. Longer information usually fits Email Aberto more comfortably than a crowded chat screen.

G2: present the public account

The preview reports disappearances in a park. Its large headline, summary, byline and photograph can introduce an investigation or establish what the public knows.

Put one central fact in the headline. Include a location and date in the summary. A reporter or witness gives the party someone to find. Review the photograph and caption alongside the copy: an unrelated image can accidentally look like a clue.

G2 has the appearance of a contemporary news portal. The RPG newspaper guide also discusses period clippings; a different era requires a different presentation.

Connect the documents deliberately

The previews depict different situations. To use them in one adventure, choose a location, a date range and two people before editing. The news report introduces the incident; the email opens a route to a source; the conversation leads the party there. Repeat only what helps players recognize the connection.

Open the template page, check access and continue to the editor. Personalize the available layers and inspect the whole composition. Export using your account’s options and test readability on a phone. Interface elements represent a visual prop; replying to a message or opening an attachment is something the table resolves in play.
